Who’s James Hind?
James, founder of carwow, started off life in finance before seeing an opportunity to start his business. carwow has secured £18.5m in investment from prominent angels and VCs and has grown from 7 -100 employees in the last 24 months. James is now taking the business overseas, starting with Germany!

After studying Finance at the University of Nottingham, he spent time interning at Midas Capital in the city in the midst of the 2008 financial crisis, which put him off that career for life. He worked as a ski instructor for a season before finally launching his own business.

To date, carwow has raised more than £18.5m worth of investment from angels and Venture Capitalists such as Alex Chesterman, Balderton Capital, Episode 1 Ventures, Samos Investments and Accel Partners.

In the last 24 months, staff numbers have grown from 7 people to 100 employees working over two floors of a central London office. The number of cars sold through carwow has grown considerably each year, now reaching over £1bn since launch. The first car was sold in Germany in May 2016 after carwow.de launched and James plans to make car buying hassle-free in more countries soon, as well as expanding into the used car market. Nearly 2m people are now signed up to carwow and, collectively, the site has saved customers £100m since launching. 3% of all new cars bought in the UK are purchased through carwow.
